Extreme Weather Update - School Closure
You will be aware that the Met Office has issued a red weather warning for extreme heat, which covers Pontardawe and the surrounding areas over the next few days. It has predicted that temperatures will rise to over 37 degrees in the shade, with the possibility of being higher again, particularly in direct sunlight. We have been monitoring this closely and have considered a range of mitigations to alleviate the risks.
In light of the information currently available, we have decided to close the school building to pupils on Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June, switching to online learning for all year groups. Our teachers will set work on Microsoft Teams for each scheduled lesson and be available online to help and support.
This will allow pupils to continue their studies at home in safety. The school will open as normal on Friday 26th June. Any activities due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday have been rescheduled to the following week, including Year 9 examinations and our Year 7 Parents’ Evening.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. However, the health, safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff is paramount.
