Pastoral Support

Although our primary purpose as school is to educate our pupils, it is essential that they are ready to learn. As we all know, various issues affect our ability to perform well, especially if we are worried or concerned.

In Cwmtawe, we pride ourselves on very high levels of pastoral care.

On entry, every pupil is assigned to a form. In most cases, they will stay in this form with the same form tutor throughout their time in school. The form tutor is the first line of support for pupils and meets with them twice a day for registration.

Our Heads of Year and Assistant Heads of Year lead the form tutors and oversee the entire year group. In most cases, this involves looking after around 200 pupils. Each year group has its own unique ‘communal area’, which is their home for the five years at school. The year team monitor progress, wellbeing, attitudes to learning, standards of uniform and appearance, behaviour, attendance and punctuality. More importantly, they offer regular praise and support to ensure each and every pupil maximises their potential.

To ensure we are able to support our pupils well, we rely heavily on strong links between home and school. If parents/carers are concerned or able to provide information to help us better support their child, then please telephone the relevant Head of Year immediately.
