Sport

The PE Department aims to provide Cwmtawe learners with a variety of opportunities and experiences in a broad and balanced curriculum. This is achieved in lessons and through an extensive range of extra curricular activities. Whilst playing a vital part in the Health & Wellbeing AOLE, the department strives to provide a curriculum that is appropriate to its pupils in an empowering, friendly and safe environment.

Staff do their utmost to provide competitive sport against local and national opposition, whilst also accommodating those pupils who want to play sport more recreationally. As a result, we believe that we develop individuals who appreciate the importance of lifelong involvement in physical activity and understand the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices.

In line with Curriculum for Wales, pupils in Cwmtawe are:

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society

As a result, many of our pupils opt to study GCSE PE in Key Stage 4, with many going on to sports related college and university courses. Even those who don't, often continue to value physical activity and understand its importance.

GCSE Physical Education

Through studying GCSE Physical Education learners will acquire the knowledge, understanding, skills and values to develop and maintain their performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being. Learners will develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance.
