Year 6 Parents

The thought of moving from primary school to a larger secondary school can be a little daunting for pupils and parents. We work very hard with all our partner schools to make this experience exciting and enjoyable.

Prospective Year 7 pupils are introduced to the school through a phased programme which starts in Year 5. Teachers in Cwmtawe and our designated primary schools focus on building on the momentum gained at key stage 2. This ensures that the transition between Years 6 and 7 is as seamless as possible, both academically and pastorally. Most of our pupils have visited the school on many occasions for various skills days and our school production before their final Induction Day during July of Year 6.

Our prospectus is available for parents to view on the website in October when the application window opens. This is followed by an information evening held at the school in June.

Cwmtawe has six designated feeder schools identified by Neath Port Talbot local authority.

Alltwen
Godre’rgraig
Llangiwg
Rhos
Rhydyfro
Tairgwaith

In addition to the pupils in our designated schools, around half our annual intake consists of preferred placement pupils (i.e. parents who make an active choice to apply to Cwmtawe from outside our natural catchment).

We are delighted to maintain close working relationships with the following schools.

Clydach Primary School
Glais Primary School
YGG Trebannws
Ynystawe Primary School

If your child attends a school outside our natural catchment, you may not automatically receive updates unless you have registered your details with us.

Applying for a place

All applications to the school must be made through Neath Port Talbot local authority. Details are available on our admissions page. If your child does not attend one of our designated cluster primary schools but you would like them to be invited to our Induction Day please complete the new intake contact form.
