Pupil Voice
The school exists to provide an outstanding education for pupils. Therefore it stands to reason that the views of pupils on aspects of their education should be carefully considered.
School Council
Our school council are instrumental in influencing change and giving a pupil perspective on various aspects of school life
The school council consists of our Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as representatives from each year group from Year 7 to Year 11 and from various student bodies. Pupils are nominated and voted in by their peers through their Year Group Councils.
Discussions take place in year groups on issues of importance to pupils. The school council meet regularly as a body to discuss these issues with a member of the senior leadership team. The meetings are minuted and then fed back to other pupils through the Year Group representatives and school assemblies.
Our Head Boy and Head Girl are also associate governors of the school and represent the overall views of pupils at the highest level in the management of the school.
Eco Committee
Environmental and global issues are integrated across the school curriculum for all pupils. However, the Eco Committee take this a stage further. Led and driven by the pupils themselves, they constantly explore ways in which we can work together to improve sustainability.
We have a small but active Eco Committee with representatives from each year group. They meet on a regular basis to consider how to make the school more sustainable. As a result of their work, the school first achieved Green Flag status in 2005, but has since achieved the coveted Eco Schools Platinum award.
SNAG
We have an active School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG). They meet regularly with the Catering Manager to consider how pupils can maintain a healthy diet, in line with Welsh Government's Appetite for Life guidance.
The SNAG team have been involved in taster sessions to sample different nutritious and healthy options for our school canteen. Pupils are also responsible for cascading the messages to others across the school.
The work of our SNAG group has been recognised within the local authority.
